Look out for young South Australians

An important part of the Council’s responsibilities is to monitor the wellbeing of South Australian children and report those results to the state government and the community.

This work started in 2007 with the development of a framework, Improving the Lives of Young South Australians, to increase the Council’s understanding of how children are faring. Based on the United Kingdom’s Every Child Matters framework, it encompasses the five domains of children’s lives:

  • health and development
  • safety and protection
  • enjoyment of life and achievement
  • contributions to family and community life
  • preparation for adult life.

Look out for young South Australians sets a baseline in each of the five domains, against which the circumstances of children can be monitored in the future. It will be an important guide for the Council and the South Australian community in determining how our children’s rights are being upheld.
