The Council for the Care of Children acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians of the lands and waters on which the State of South Australia has been founded.
For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, acknowledging the traditional owners and custodians of the lands and waters is an expression of cultural respect. It is also recognition of the ongoing responsibilities and obligations of the traditional owners for the care of those lands and waters. In making such acknowledgement, Indigenous peoples fulfil an important cultural protocol and responsibility on behalf of themselves and the communities they represent.
As a sign of respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocol, it is also appropriate for other South Australians to acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians. The Council for the Care of Children, in fulfilling such protocol, does so as a commitment to reconciliation.
